Role of the Circle Leader

As Circle Leader your intention is "Purpose", your question is "Why", your frequency is "Spirit" and your element is "Water". Your focus is the growth of XL Nation and our ability to collectively achieve World Wide Wealth. Your role is to ensure that your Circle remains committed to its purpose

Each Leader is a facilitator and doesn't have to provide the answers. As a facilitator you can move the Circle to make a decision and/ or take action where necessary. Someone in the Circle is likely to have the answers; it does not need to be you.

Part of being a Circle Leader is learning from your experiences. Consider sharing your insights and learnings with other Circle Leaders through the monthly Forum.

As a Circle Leader it is your responsibility to work with and support your fellow Circle Leaders, as well as being a flow Leader during Circle meetings. Identify a deputy who can look after your roll in meetings that you are unable to attend.

Book a time and place for your Circle meeting and regular dates for meetings for the rest of your year of office. Get a copy of the Declaration of Interdependence to read at the beginning of each Circle meeting.

As Circle Leader you are the most visible representative of XL Nation for the members of your Circle and the public. Be informed about what is happening in XL Nation and consider attracting a team of members from within your Circle to support you. Consider creating an Events team to support you in running Circle meetings and other events.

Go do it!

At Circle meetings you read the Declaration of Interdependence after the WWW Ambassador has opened the meeting, and remind the Circle of the Circle's purpose/ mission/ theme each meeting.

You invite people present to share something significant to them (for no more than 1 minute) in the last month to set the tone of engagement for the meeting. You might do this with questions like: "How have you been showing up in the last month (in a way related to the theme of the Circle)?" "What are you grateful for in the last month?" etc.

You pass the flow of the meeting to the Circle Guardian.

Outside Circle meetings you are responsible for making sure there is a venue or an online facility to conduct your meetings and that everyone in your Circle knows when and how meetings are going to happen.

As part of your focus on the growth of XL Nation, you look for opportunities to engage groups of people who are not yet involved in XL Nation to become involved. You are effectively a public relations person for XL Nation! You might like to consider creating an Events team to support you in running Circle meetings and joint event with other Circles and or social enterprises.

One of the key learning's we have in XL Nation is that we don't have to do it on our own. As Circle Leader, you can attract a TEAM of people within your Circle to act as your support team and take on some of the responsibilities that you have. They gain the opportunity to experience some of the aspects of being a Circle Leader, and you leverage your time.

Role of the Circle Guardian

As Circle Guardian your intention is "Leadership", your question is "Why", your frequency is "Spirit" and your element is "Water". Your focus is the fun, flexibility and wellbeing of your Circle.

Each Leader is a facilitator and doesn't have to provide the answers. As a facilitator you can move the Circle to make a decision and/ or take action where necessary. Someone in the Circle is likely to have the answers; it does not need to be you.

Part of being a Circle Guardian is learning from your experiences. Consider sharing your insights and learnings with other Circle Guardians through the monthly Forum, XL World and through involvement in your local Arc.

As a Circle Guardian it is your responsibility to work with and support your fellow Circle Leaders, as well as being a flow Leader during Circle meetings. Identify a deputy who can look after your roll in meetings that you are unable to attend.

Prepare the running sheet for the meeting and ensure that all members of your Leadership team are prepared beforehand. Discuss the feelings that you want to create in the meeting - like fun, not taking yourselves too seriously, adding value.

As Circle Guardian you are the second most visible representative of XL Nation for the members of your Circle and the public. Be informed about what is happening in XL Nation and within your Circle. Support your Leadership team to ensure that each Leader identifies a deputy who can fulfill their role if something unexpected comes up which means they are unable to attend. Consider creating a Marketing team to assist you in creating affiliate relationships and partnerships to support the growth and activities of your Circle.

Go do it!

At Circle meetings you invite everyone to introduce themselves by contributing at least their name and their profile. In a large Circle you may invite people to do this in groups rather than to the Circle as a whole. In a Circle of less than say 40 people, you invite everyone to share. You might make a point of specifically welcoming guests and visitors from other Circles.

You provide all present at a Circle meeting with context, briefly outlining the way the meeting will flow, who the Leaders are and what they will be doing and when the meeting will end. You chair the meeting and keep an eye on the time (or appoint a timekeeper) so that the meeting continues to progress and flow.

You pass the flow of the meeting to the Scout, and ensure the smooth progression of flow from the Scout to the Guide, the Guide to the Reporter, the Reporter to the Treasurer and the Treasurer to the WWW Ambassador.

Outside Circle meetings your focus is the wellbeing of the State of the Circle, ensuring that Circle members are thinking forward into the Leadership roles that they may nominate for in the future, feel engaged and involved in Circle activities.

As part of your focus on the growth and wellbeing of your Circle, consider identifying and creating opportunities for social activities for members of the Circle outside of Circle meetings. You might like to consider affiliate relationships and partnerships to support the growth and activities of your Circle.

Role of the world Wide Wealth Ambassador

As WWW Ambassador your intention is "Effective Giving", your question is "Why", your frequency is "Spirit" and your element is "Water". Your focus is achieving World Wide Wealth and the XL 2020 Vision. World Wide Wealth as an aim is the 'glue' that holds XL Nation together.

Each Leader is a facilitator and doesn't have to provide the answers. As a facilitator you can move the Circle to make a decision and/ or take action where necessary. Someone in the Circle is likely to have the answers; it does not need to be you.

Part of being a WWW Ambassador is learning from your experiences. Consider sharing your insights and learnings with other WWW Ambassadors through XL world.

As a Circle Leader it is your responsibility to work with and support your fellow Circle Leaders, as well as being a flow Leader during Circle meetings. Identify a deputy who can look after your roll in meetings that you are unable to attend.

Knowing your role

Firstly, join the WWW Ambassador's group in XL World. Find out the XL 2020 Vision is, what a social entrepreneur is and what the UN Millennium Goals are. The more you know about XL Nation's involvement in social enterprise initiatives, the more you can assist in educating your Circle members. Finding out about XLs involvement in the UN Global Compact and the Clinton Global Initiative will also help. For your Circle, look for opportunities to share with Circle members so that they can actively participate in giving back.

Your meeting

You get to introduce the Circle mascot to meeting members. The Circle mascot is an animal which could be a plush toy, wooden carving or other object which gets passed from flow Leader to flow Leader as they take on their roles throughout the meeting. You start each meeting, reminding members of the XL 2020 Vision and the definition of a social entrepreneur. You pass the flow of the meeting to the Circle Leader. You also end each meeting, identifying opportunities in the next month for members to be involved in social enterprise activities.

WWW Stories and events

You capture all the stories that are in XL Nation of World Wide Wealth and share them with the Circle. Make sure you have the XL Nation KPI's ready for each meeting to declare what impact Circles are having at a global scale.

The added extras

As WWW Ambassador you are the Circle's connection with why we are part of XL Nation, achieving World Wide Wealth. Attract a team of members who can support you to identify and encourage Circle member participation in social enterprise activities, including events, volunteer work and donations. You role is to help members identify how easy it is to make a difference, and to acknowledge when they do so.

Go do it!

At Circle meetings you start each meeting, reminding members of the XL 2020 Vision and the definition of a social entrepreneur.

During or before each meeting you invite Circle members to make a note of their contributions over the last month to be passed to the Treasurer for recording and reporting.

You pass the flow of the meeting to the Circle Leader.

You also end each meeting, identifying opportunities in the next month for members to be involved in social enterprise activities and thanking everyone for participating.

Outside Circle meetings you are learning about international activities that support the achievement of WWW, XLs involvement in those activities, and activities and events that members of your Circle may be able to participate in to contribute to WWW.

You might like to consider creating a WWW team to support you in learning all about WWW and identifying opportunities to support the achievement of WWW.

Role of the Scout

As Scout your flow is "Knowledge": Transforming information into action. You are the 'Dynamo' frequency in the four flow Leaders: The spark. Your focus is supporting the learning of Circle members and more specifically, the application of that learning.

Each flow Leader is a facilitator and doesn't have to provide the answers. As a facilitator you can move the Circle to make a decision and/ or take action where necessary. Someone in the Circle is likely to have the answers; it does not need to be you.

A piece of learning in XL is known as a knowledge pixl. These make up the global XL Library. You are responsible for adding to this to the XL Library after every circle session by adding the knowledge pixl you discussed in the Circle. That means you are responsible for growing and sharing insights at both the Circle and the global level.

Part of being a Scout is learning from your experiences. Consider sharing your insights and learnings with other Scouts through the monthly Forum, XL World and through involvement in your local Arc.

As a Scout it is your responsibility to work with and support your fellow Circle Leaders, as well as being a flow Leader during Circle meetings. Identify a deputy who can look after your role in meetings that you are unable to attend.

Firstly, join the Scout's group in XL World. Using the theme or the purpose of the Circle, make suggestions as to what the Circle members may want to learn. Resources include speakers, videos, audios, books and activities. Make sure you have walked through the next three steps with an experienced Scout so that your questions are answered. There are three parts to your role: Before, during and after the Circle.

Before the Circle Meeting

Choose a relevant knowledge pixl. At the end of your section within the Circle, propose and agree the theme of the learning for the next session. The pixl will either be something you source from the XL Library, or a video or audio you source from youtube or another source, or a guest or Circle member who will be giving a live presentation (which you will record). Maximum run time should be 10 minutes for this.

During the Circle

When it is your segment, introduce the knowledge pixl and the theme of the discussion (If it's a piece on Leadership, you will be asking for key learnings from watching / listening / participating, how this has applied within past experiences from particular members and specific actions members could commit to by applying the key learning). It's best if you already have specific members in mind to share, and as you become familiar with different members' past experience, enterprises and challenges, this becomes increasingly powerful. After 10 minutes of discussion, summarise what you will be adding to the XL Library (in terms of key learning and applied knowledge: Solid examples of where a member has or will apply the learning that others can read and relate to). End with a proposal and agreement on the next Circle's knowledge pixl.

After the Circle

Immediately after the Circle, upload the video or audio or blog into the XL Library. If the Knowledge pixl is already in XL World, there's no need to upload again. If the video is on you tube, XL World enables you to easily embed the video link so that it is added to the XL Library. There are a number of simple steps to follow once you have added it, and here they are:

  1. Tag the pixl: First with KP (For knowledge pixl), then with the relevant category out of the 13 available categories (which fit the wealth dynamics stages of enterprise). So one on innovation will be tagged 'KP-innovation.'
  2. Add your summary: Second, add your summary as a comment on the pixl: Include the date of your circle session, the name of your circle, the key learnings, and examples of how that learning has been or will be applied. Provide a link back to your circle so XL Citizens can find your circle easily.
  3. Rate the video or audio: This makes it easier to sort and find the most popular pixls in the library.
  4. Post in your Circle: Also post your comments and a link to the video/audio in your circle group on XL World, so existing and future circle members can return to the same learning in the future.
  5. Let your team know: Let your circle Leaders and members know once you've done this. The entire process to complete this should not take more than 20 minutes once you get the hang of it.

The added extras

As Scout you have the opportunity to alert members to education opportunities occurring within the wider XL Nation and regional Arcs as well as within the Circle. You can identify people within the Circle who can contribute learnings to the Circle and other Circles and can attract a team to support you to do so.

Go do it!

At Circle meetings you facilitate a session for the education of Circle members. You turn a pixl into power through inspiration and insight, and you turn that power into a pixl. This is how every Scout links every circle to XL Nation through the flow of knowledge. This is one of the five pixls that grow our social profit: pixl stands for "Profit in XL". After your 24 minutes, you pass the flow of the meeting to the Guide.

Outside Circle meetings you are identifying resources which support the learnings that Circle members have identified they want. You also identify and notify the members of upcoming learning opportunities within XL, such as Wealth Flight Experience, Entrepreneur Business School and online Momentums.

As Scout, attract a TEAM to support you and even to host your section of the circle. The Training and Development team can also assist in identifying opportunities for learning outside of Circle meetings.

Role of the Guide

As Guide your flow is "Opportunity": Transforming connections into transactions. You are the 'Blaze' frequency in the four flow Leaders: the sparkle. Your focus is connecting Circle members and more specifically, ignite the opportunities between members.

Each flow Leader is a facilitator and doesn't have to provide the answers. As a facilitator you can move the Circle to make a decision and/ or take action where necessary. Someone in the Circle is likely to have the answers; it does not need to be you.

Opportunities in XL are the key to effective giving. They have a specific structure based on what we can offer others. There is a limit to what we can get, but there is no limit to what we can give. In XL, opportunity pixls make up the XL Opportunities Exchange. You are responsible for adding to this global exchange after every circle session by adding the opportunity pixls you featured in the circle. That means you are responsible for growing and sharing connections at both the Circle and the global level.

Part of being a Guide is learning from your experiences. Consider sharing your insights and learnings with other Guides through the monthly Forum, XL World and through involvement in your local Arc.

As a Guide it is your responsibility to work with and support your fellow Circle Leaders, as well as being a flow Leader during Circle meetings. Identify a deputy to take up your role when you are unable to attend.

Firstly, join the Guide's group in XL World. Seek out opportunities from the exchange that will of value to your members, and identify two members each circle meeting to share a new opportunity. Make sure you have walked through the next three steps with an experienced Guide so that your questions are answered. There are three parts to your role: Before, during and after the Circle.

Before the Circle

Connect with members of your Circle before the meeting and find out who would like to present an opportunity. Ask them to write it out (and even post it themselves on XL World) prior to the meeting. Make sure it is a real opportunity and facilitate its presentation at the meeting. Connect with members and guests as they arrive. Ensure that guests connect with the person who invited them and introduce them to other members. In the flow, you are after the Scout and will pass the flow of the meeting to the Reporter.

During the Circle

When it is your segment, first share a number of opportunities you have downloaded from XL World that may be of interest to particular members or the entire Circle. Then introduce the first member who will be presenting their opportunity. They should keep their offer to one to two minutes, and then give a chance for questions and support. It is the same with the second member. If you have time spare, ask for anyone with a particular challenge that the circle can help to rephrase as an opportunity (all challenges are blocks, but in every challenge of what you don't have or can't do can be turned into an opportunity to someone who has it or can do it. Once it's an opportunity, it becomes of value and turns from a block into flow). Work with experienced Guides on the critical distinctions that make opportunities so powerful at changing our vocabulary from what we need to what we can offer, and from must what we get to what we can give.

After the Circle

Immediately after the Circle, add the opportunities into the XL Opportunities Exchange. This is the discussion section of XL World. If the member has already added it, check it is tagged and the right format. The format always includes six parts related to the member offering the opportunity: who you are, what your mission is, what you offer, who you are offering it to, what you seek in return and how to connect. There are a number of simple steps to follow once you have added it, and here they are:

  1. Tag the pixl: First with OP (For opportunity pixl), then with the relevant category out of the 13 available categories (which fit the wealth dynamics stages of enterprise). So one on investment will be tagged 'OP-investment.'
  2. Check the title: Second, check the title. Always begin with OP in the title. (eg. OP: Resort Investment in Fiji).
  3. Check the format: Ensure the format follows the six steps above (Look at other opportunities to check you have the right format). Provide a link back to your Circle so XL Citizens can find your Circle easily, and a link directly to the Citizen whose opportunity it is in XL World.
  4. Post in your Circle: Also post a link to opportunity in your Circle on XL World, so existing and future Circle members can return to the same opportunity in the future.
  5. Let your team know: Let your Circle Leaders and members know once you've done this. The entire process to complete this should not take more than 20 minutes once you get the hang of it.

The added extras

As Guide you have the opportunity to ensure that members feel welcome and included within the Circle. Part of that sense of welcome and inclusion is ensuring that new members have a buddy who helps them to become familiar with XL Nation, their profile and the Circle. You can attract a Membership team to support you in supporting the members.

Go do it!

At Circle meetings you greet people as they arrive and ensure they feel welcome and included. You facilitate a session for opportunity knocks during the meeting and report the opportunities on XL World. Invite Circle members to let you know if they have an opportunity to present at the next meeting so that you are able to prepare in advance.

Outside Circle meetings you ensure that members can contact you with their opportunities and coach those who do not know how to present their ideas as an opportunity. You also support members to connect with each other. In your role, you know who is who within your Circle. Attract a TEAM to support.

Role of the Reporter

As Reporter your flow is "Successes": Reporting on the transformation of actions into extraordinary results. You are the 'Earth' frequency in the four flow Leaders: The map. Your focus is reporting on Circle member successes and more specifically, directing actions to successful destinations.

Each flow Leader is a facilitator and doesn't have to provide the answers. As a facilitator you can move the Circle to make a decision and/ or take action where necessary. Someone in the Circle is likely to have the answers; it does not need to be you.

There are plenty of ways to take actions without results (or the wrong results). The Reporter adds to the XL News Channel by highlighting the actions that lead to successful results. In XL, success pixls make up the XL News Channel. You are responsible for adding the success pixls you featured in the circle. That means you are responsible for growing and sharing success stories at both the Circle and the global level.

Part of being a Reporter is learning from your experiences. Consider sharing your insights and learnings with other Reporters through the monthly Forum, XL World and through involvement in your local Arc.

As a Reporter it is your responsibility to work with and support your fellow Circle Leaders, as well as being a flow Leader during Circle meetings. Identify a deputy to take up your role when you are unable to attend.

Firstly, join the Reporter's group in XL World. Get to know the people in your Circle and ask them their stories. You need to be curious to find out what people are doing, achieving and overcoming. Report the stories you collect on XL World. Make sure you have walked through the next three steps with an experienced Reporter so that your questions are answered. There are three parts to your role: Before, during and after the Circle.

Before the Circle

Connect with members of your Circle before the meeting and find out who would like to a share a success story, where they had a challenge or goal and found a way to overcome or achieve it. Identify two members to share. Brief the members on the key points to cover in the story (see below for the five points).

During the Circle

When it is your segment, introduce the first member who will be sharing their story. They should keep their offer to six minutes, and then give a chance for questions. Then it's the same with the second member. The five points for them to cover include: Who they are, what their challenge or goal was, what their actions were, what their success was, and their key lesson from the experience. Record the conversation and take notes so you can record and post your report afterwards. Use the last part of your session to nominate members to share in the following circle meeting. You pass the flow of the meeting to the Treasurer.

After the Circle

Immediately after the Circle, add the stories into the XL News Channel. This is the blog section of XL World. The format always includes five parts (itemised above). There are a number of simple steps to follow once you have added it, and here they are:

  1. Tag the pixl: First with SP (For success pixl), then with the relevant category out of the 13 available categories (which fit the wealth dynamics profiles). So one on a trader will be tagged 'SP-Trader.'
  2. Check the title: Second, check the title. Always begin with SP in the title. (eg. SP: Andrea's health store finds financier).
  3. Check the format: Ensure the format follows the five steps above (Look at other stories to check you have the right format). Provide a link back to your circle so XL Citizens can find your circle easily, and a link directly to the Citizen whose story it is in XL World.
  4. Post in your Circle: Also post a link to the story in your circle group on XL World, so existing and future circle members can return to the same story in the future.
  5. Let your team know: Let your circle Leaders and members know once you've done this. The entire process to complete this should not take more than 20 minutes once you get the hang of it.

The added extras

As Reporter you have the opportunity to share great stories and ensure that Circle members receive regular communication. Part of communicating with members is making sure that each Leader puts up their reports on XL World after each meeting and that regional information is readily accessible to Circle members.

Go do it!

At Circle meetings you share the stories of Circle members. You could do this by reporting directly, interviewing or facilitating a question and answer session, then report the stories on XL World.

Invite Circle members to let you know if they have a story to share at the next meeting so that you are able to prepare in advance.

You pass the flow of the meeting to the Treasurer.

Outside Circle meetings you discover the stories of Circle members and make sure that members are receiving communications from XL Nation and the Circle.

You might like to consider creating a Communications team to support you in ensuring that members are receiving communications from the Circle and XL Nation.

Role of the Treasurer

As Treasurer your intention is "Measures", your question is "How", your frequency is "Steel" and your element is "Metal". Your focus is measuring the WWW contributions of your Circle and ensuring that your Circle is financially independent and viable.

Each flow Leader is a facilitator and doesn't have to provide the answers. As a facilitator you can move the Circle to make a decision and/ or take action where necessary. Someone in the Circle is likely to have the answers; it does not need to be you.

Part of being a Treasurer is learning from your experiences. Consider sharing your insights and learnings with other Treasures through the monthly Forum, XL World and through involvement in your local Arc.

As a Treasurer it is your responsibility to work with and support your fellow Circle Leaders, as well as being a flow Leader during Circle meetings. Identify a deputy who can look after your roll in meetings that you are unable to attend.

Firstly, join the Treasurer's group in XL World. Find out from your Circle what the Circle wants to measure. A list of possible measures is included at the end of these steps. Report the measures for your Circle on XL World and report your Circle's contributions in the WWW Contributions group.

At the meeting

The Guardian will call for the Circle's contributions to WWW at each meeting. It is your role to collate those contributions from each of the members. You also identify what other measure the Circle wants to make and report measures on XL World. You pass the flow of the meeting to the WWW Ambassador.

After the meeting

Report the totals in the WWW Contributions Group on XL World to XL Nation for your Circle on a monthly basis here.

Measures

We treasure what we measure. In the past the SEA program has recorded pledges of future contributions rather than actual contributions. By asking each member each month to declare (with integrity) their contributions to WWW in money, time and resources, we are able to demonstrate the actual contributions of XL Nation citizens to WWW.

Measures of a Circle might include:

  • Participation of the Circle Group Leader and Guardian at District Arc level
  • Member participation in other XL Events
  • Hosting of XL Events
  • WWW contributions
  • Participation in events supporting WWW
  • Partnerships with business
  • Partnerships with causes/charities
  • Financial income and outgoings
  • Growth in membership
  • Conversion rate of guests
  • Attendance rates at Circle Group meetings

Go do it!

At Circle meetings you record the WWW contributions and attendance, and then report the measures on XL World.

You pass the flow of the meeting to the WWW Ambassador.

Outside Circle meetings you ensure that any costs of Circle meetings are covered by the contributions of members and that the Circle remains financially viable. You are responsible for looking after any bank accounts operated by the Circle.

You are responsible for monitoring members' attendance at Circle meetings and advising members who are likely to fall below 60% attendance of their attendance rate. You might attract a team to assist you in monitoring attendance and other measures.
